The CLC was created at Weyerhaeuser R&D in 1984 to study coating and basestock
developments for their new LWC paper mill in Columbus, MS.
In 1987 the Sensors & Simulation Products Division of Weyerhaeuser (S&SP) began
to sell the CLC worldwide. Then, with ideas from existing customers the CLC was improved,
resulting in the CLC-6000, faster with many more capabilities than the original CLC.
Later, options for rod and short dwell time coating were added. By 1998 S&SP had
sold 52 CLCs to companies in 12 countries.
Weyerhaeuser's decision to focus on its core forest products businesses led to the
decision to look for a company that could continue to support its CLC-6000 customers.
SimuTech International (STI) was incorporated in late 1998 to continue service to the
existing CLC owners and to sell more CLCs to the industry.
